Cybersecurity for Everyone

May 23, 2019 @ 5:30 pm - 7:30 pm

Note the date change! We’re pushing this business practice event out to the fourth Thursday because EDSymposium19 is happening during the third Thursday

So much of our lives is spent online and it’s becoming increasingly difficult to tell the difference between real and fake when it comes to emails, text messages and other forms of communication. Highly skilled cybercriminals trick us into clicking malicious links, giving up personal information and sometimes even transferring money. This business practice event will discuss how to identify phishing, social engineering, and scams, and you’ll learn why unique passwords are important (and how to manage them!).

Presenter: Steph Keller jokes that her first job was in elementary school, when she’d go to work with her mom on weekends to assemble intake packets and sort papers. As a teenager and young adult, she took on receptionist and bookkeeping roles and eventually migrated to the world of technology, first with a technical support role, and currently as a Cybersecurity Supervisor for Expeditors. Steph believes that cybersecurity is everyone’s responsibility, no matter who you are or what you do, and hopes to teach her community some practical tips for good cyber-hygiene.

No-shows and cancellations after 12:00 PM (Pacific) on May 14 will not be refunded.

5:30 PM: Arrive/network. 6:00 PM: Welcome/dinner. 6:30 PM: Speaker/presentation.

If you are outside of the greater Seattle, Bellevue, or Tacoma metropolitan area, we have a Virtual attendance option for SDA members and for Non-members.
