We’re excited to have Aviva Kamm as our July speaker! She will discuss key legal rules for the industry, including exempt vs. non-exempt classification, overtime, and piece rate pay, and will provide compliance tips for an assortment of recent legal developments including social media in recruiting and at work, background checks, drug policies since legalization of recreational marijuana, paid family leave, and more.

Presenter: Aviva Kamm is a shareholder with Stokes Lawrence, P.S. in Seattle. Aviva represents employees and employers facing issues involving discrimination, wrongful termination, wage/hour issues and noncompete and nonsolicitation agreements, and conducts independent investigations of workplace complaints. She also advises employers on a broad range of day-to-day and strategic human resources issues, including worker classification, FMLA administration, disability accommodation, discipline and I-9 (employment eligibility) compliance.

Aviva graduated from the University of Washington School of Law. She clerked for Anne Ellington of the Washington State Court of Appeals, and she is rated as one of the top 50 women lawyers in Washington by SuperLawyers. Aviva is an active member in the legal community. She is an executive committee member of the Washington State Bar Association Labor & Employment Law Section, Treasurer and Trustee of the King County Bar Association Labor & Employment Law Section, and member of the Association of Workplace Investigators. Aviva also provides legal advice at pro bono or reduced rates to a variety of nonprofits throughout the Puget Sound.
