We might not be dining by candlelight, but we think you’ll be delighted by this business practice dinner. We’ve asked a guy to speak about . . . lighting design. He will present a review of art installations employing light, and how lighting design can use light to create interesting spaces for our everyday use.

According to Richard, “Light defines our experience of the spaces around us. It is the means by which form, surface, texture and color are transmitted to our seeing consciousness. Light is also the means by which we successfully complete our tasks and negotiate our paths. It may arouse us, or set us to rest. It may encourage and enhance social interaction, or enforce privacy. How we manipulate this medium is of vital significance to the built environment.”

Presenter: Richard Spry, LC IES, Senior Associate in the Seattle office of WSP USA. Having been employed by lighting design firms based in both Europe and the United States, Richard brings a wealth of design experience to his projects. His work includes hotels and resorts, casinos, museums, restaurants, retail, healthcare and corporate offices. Recognized as an international designer, Richard’s projects can be seen throughout North America and the Caribbean, Europe, North Africa, Asia, and the Middle East. Instilled with a sensitivity to the environment and energy use in particular, while specializing in the demands of architectural lighting for mood and ambience as much as function and amenity, Richard is keen to demonstrate that it is indeed possible to bring finesse and artistry to a project at the same time as acting responsibly with regard to the environment, promoting the health and well-being of those using the space, and all the time serving the Client and their budget.
